What is ANZAC Day?
ANZAC Day is a national day in Australia and New Zealand which commemorates victims of war and recognises the role of their armed forces.
It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War – the landing on Gallipoli in 1915.
The soldiers later became known as the ANZACs – Australian and New Zealand Army Corps – which is a name that endures to this day.
