Granville South showcases vocational education success on SBS Arabic and Oz Arab Media

Granville South showcases vocational education success on SBS Arabic and Oz Arab Media.

Granville South Creative and Performing Arts High School was recently featured in the media through an article on Oz Arab Media (view article) and a segment on SBS Arabic (view video), which provides independent news and current affairs for Arabic speakers in Australia.

The coverage highlighted the importance of vocational education through apprenticeships at Granville South, showcased via the NSW Department of Education’s Educational Pathways Program, an innovative initiative aimed at improving educational and career outcomes for young people by introducing NSW public high school students to a variety of vocational training and employment opportunities.

Coinciding with National Careers Week, Principal Joumana Youssef emphasised the school’s commitment to supporting students in exploring career pathways, noting that 15 students are currently enrolled in school-based apprenticeships and traineeships.

This media feature offers a cultural lens to showcase the work being done at the school to the Arabic community and to strengthen engagement with Arabic-speaking families. Granville South is a culturally and linguistically diverse school, and we are committed to reaching out to the Arabic community to communicate effectively—ensuring that every child can engage with what we offer, such as the Educational Pathways Program, and pursue the pathway that best suits their aspirations.

“It’s inspiring to see CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) staff like Principal Youssef being recognised for their leadership and innovation. Her work in co-creating inclusive, wraparound careers education with the community is a great example of culturally responsive practice in action.”
