Stage 5: Year 9 and 10
Stage 5 consists of two years of study: Year 9 and Year 10. During this stage, all students study compulsory subjects and choose elective courses. At Granville South Creative and Performing Arts High School, students are required to study two 200‑hour (two‑year) elective courses.
Over the two years, Stage 5 students will:
- Continue to develop skills in literacy, numeracy and critical thinking
- Build a strong foundation for subjects studied in the senior years (Years 11 and 12)
- Develop a deeper understanding of their interests through the elective courses they choose
Record of School Achievement (RoSA)
The Record of School Achievement (RoSA) is a record of achievement that includes a student’s record of academic achievement up until the date they leave school. It includes:
- Completed courses and the awarded grade or mark
- An A to E grade for all Stage 5 (Year 10) courses
RoSA eligibility
To be eligible for a RoSA, students must have:
- Attended school until the final day of Year 10
- Completed the mandatory curriculum requirements for Years 7 – 10
- Completed courses of study that satisfy NESA’s curriculum and assessment requirements for the RoSA
- Left the school system after completing Year 10 but before completing the HSC.
Satisfactory completion of course
Students will have satisfactorily completed a course if they have:
- Followed the course developed or endorsed by NESA
- Applied themselves with diligence and sustained effort to set tasks and experiences
- Achieved course outcomes
- Made a genuine attempt at assessment tasks that contribute in excess of 50 percent of the available marks.
'N' determination
Students who have not complied with the course completion criteria and who have received at least two written warnings can be regarded as not having satisfactorily completed the course at the time of finalising grades. The principal may then apply the ‘N’ determination.
